Current repair techniques do not re-establish normal bone-tendon (B-T) or tendon-muscle (T-M) junctions. Optimizing the strength and function at these junctions may result in lower failure rates with greater clinical success. We developed a bone-tendon allograft technique (as opposed to a soft tissue scaffold only) which has the potential to provide immediate bone-tendon integrity and function. The purpose of this study was to test the B-T allograft repair technique using a canine model to assess clinical, imaging, histologic, and biomechanical outcomes compared to allograft tendon alone treatment and two different control groups. We hypothesized that the B-T allograft would be superior to tendon-alone allograft for rotator cuff repair in a canine model.

Comparison of a novel bone-tendon allograft with a human dermis-derived patch for repair of chronic large rotator cuff tears using a canine model.

PURPOSE This study tested a bone-tendon allograft versus human dermis patch for reconstructing chronic rotator cuff repair by use of a canine model. METHODS Mature research dogs (N = 15) were used. Radiopaque wire was placed in the infraspinatus tendon (IST) before its transection. Three weeks later, radiographs showed IST retraction. Each dog then underwent 1 IST treatment: debridement (D), ...

Short term results of arthroscopic repair of subscapularis tendon tear

Abstract   Background: Despite being the largest rotator cuff tendon of the shoulder, the   function and clinical relevance of subscapularis pathology has been largely ignored   in the literature. Although many studies have focused on subscapularis tears recently,   majority of them reported techniques for open repair. The advent of arthroscopy and   arthroscopic repair techniques has opened ...

Preliminary Results of a Consecutive Series of Large & Massive Rotator Cuff Tears Treated with Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repairs Augmented with Extracellular Matrix

Background: Recurrence rate of rotator cuff tears is still high despite the improvements of surgical techniques, materials used and a better knowledge of the healing process of the rotator cuff tendons. Large to massive rotator cuff tears are particularly associated with a high failure rate, especially in elderly. Augmentation of rotator cuff repairs with extracellular matrix or synthetic patc...

Characteristics of Rotator Cuff Repairs Revised to Shoulder Arthroplasty

Background: Successful repair of a torn rotator cuff may prevent progression to rotator cuff arthropathy. However, previous studies have shown a substantial rate of failure after rotator cuff repair and characteristics of surgicallyrepaired rotator cuffs that go on to shoulder arthroplasty have not been fully elucidated. The purpose of this study wasto determine the patient cha...

MRI-Arthroscopic Correlation in Rotator Cuff Tendon Pathologies; A Comparison between Various Centers

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has long been considered a perfect imaging study for evaluation of shoulder pathologies despite occasional discrepancies between MR reports and arthroscopic findings. In this study we aim to evaluate impact of imaging center as an indicator of image quality on accuracy of MRI reports in diagnosis of rotator cuff tendon pathologies. Methods: We re...
